Today, Tuesday, the political observer, Musha’a al-Tamimi, said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani informed the US ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, of the agreement to swap Iraqi oil for Iranian gas before it was approved.
Al-Tamimi explained in an interview with “ Al-Jarida ” that “the American side is definitely monitoring the situation in Iraq, and Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani is not like Adel Abdul-Mahdi, because he realizes the danger of going with Iran with a contract without Washington’s approval. Iraq is a strategic ally of the United States and there are obligations on Iraq according to the terms of the security agreement and the strategic framework.” In addition, the international community is committed to the US sanctions against Iran, just like the international community.
He pointed out that “the Iraqi-Iranian oil agreement is temporary, and the United States wants Iraq to invest its gas and solve the crisis once and for all,” noting that “the agreement came within the American exceptions to support the Sudanese in these difficult circumstances, but the government should invest these exceptions and work to implement the promises it made.” Iraq to the United States, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group to end the issue of importing Iranian gas, and indeed there are sincere signs from the Sudanese to solve this issue and end many years of financial waste in buying gas from Iran.
And he continued, “Al-Sudani renewed, last May, his government’s progress with the gas investment project in energy and electricity generation projects, as part of efforts to achieve financial revenues and end Iraq’s import of oil products.” Therefore, it is obvious that the government informed Washington, through its ambassador in Baghdad, who constantly meets Mr. Al-Sudani, as Washington previously granted exceptions to former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi by transferring money to Tehran despite the sanctions imposed on it.
