The Information/Baghdad –
Ghiath al-Surji, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), explained on Thursday the reasons why his party did not support the State of Law Coalition in forming the government or voting on Ali al-Zaidi’s cabinet.
Al-Surji told Al-Maalouma that “agreement is still lacking regarding the completion of al-Zaidi’s cabinet, as the PUK opposed the State of Law’s nominees for ministerial positions.” He pointed out that “the PUK sided with the positions of other political blocs such as Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, the Hikma Movement, and the Taqaddum Movement.”
He added that “this stance has prevented the completion of al-Zaidi’s cabinet by the scheduled date, and there is no optimism about reaching an agreement on the government cabinet.” He noted that “the disagreements over the cabinet stem from political differences regarding the distribution of positions such as the Ministries of Education and Interior, as well as other ministerial posts.”
He explained that “the disagreement over ministerial positions also stems from disputes between political factions regarding the mechanism for distributing posts. The Union adopted its political stance based on the positions of the political blocs regarding its presidential candidate, Nizar Amidi, and will stand with the blocs that voted for Amidi to assume the aforementioned position.”
