Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Wednesday that the Toyota Iraq project marks the beginning of car manufacturing in the country, while stating that he had directed that the commercial agencies law be amended to align with the policies of reputable international companies and protect their rights .

The Prime Minister’s media office stated in a statement received by Mail that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani launched the implementation of the Toyota Iraq industrial, storage, and service investment project in Baghdad.”

The Prime Minister, according to the statement, “blessed the launch of this investment project, stressing that foreign investment has found in Iraq an attractive and safe environment for the emergence of such investments, as the project embodies an ambitious image of partnership between the national private sector and international companies such as Toyota, and is also one of the forms of the distinguished relationship between Iraq and Japan, which is witnessing growth and development in all fields.” He also praised “the role of the Japanese ambassador for his communication and keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.”

He emphasized that “the government’s approach, since its first days in office, has been to support the private sector, create an attractive business environment, and address all the obstacles and red tape that hinder most businesses.” He noted that “this project is being implemented for the first time in Iraq by Toyota, which has been granted the concession to complete it.”

He pointed out that “the project is environmentally friendly, and this falls within the government’s drive to implement international standards related to climate change and reduce carbon emissions. It will embrace the youth, of whom we are proud, as they present a bright image of their national capabilities, skills, and competencies.” He added that “the project is the beginning of car manufacturing in Iraq, and this is neither difficult nor impossible for Iraqis.”

He continued, “It is important to provide job opportunities for young people, coupled with the addition of skills, competence, and successful experience. Iraq is embarking on a broad development, services, and reconstruction process that requires the availability of vehicles, machinery, and equipment capable of meeting the needs of the urban and service renaissance.” He explained that “the Toyota Iraq project is the first project on the path to development, which is the people’s project.”

He explained that “Iraqi markets were seeking help from neighboring markets, which is a waste of time, a loss of expertise, and an increase in costs for the consumer. This will be overcome through this unique project.” He noted that “we have directed that the commercial agencies law be amended in a way that aligns with the policies of sound international companies and preserves their rights.”

He explained that “the government’s decisions are consistent with global policies to achieve sustainable development, and Toyota has clearly achieved these standards,” stressing that “the government is committed to providing genuine support to the capable private sector, and all state institutions are concerned with providing it with facilities that will establish true development for our country.”

He pointed out that “the total area of ​​the Toyota Iraq project is (225) thousand square meters, and it will be implemented in two phases, while the total cost is (30) billion dinars, and it will work on the gradual transfer of vehicle manufacturing and services technology.”
