Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stated on Thursday that the Iraqi government is working to improve the investment environment by providing the necessary sovereign guarantees for the value of projects implemented in this sector.
This came in a speech he delivered during his attendance at the Iraqi-Omani Businessmen Forum held in Salalah, in the presence of the accompanying ministerial delegation.
Al-Sudani spoke about his official visit to Oman, saying: The visit establishes a real start between the two countries, as (24) memoranda of understanding and two agreements were signed in various fields, and they draw a road map for state institutions and the implementation of what was agreed upon, pointing to the breadth of investment opportunities available for the contribution of Iraqi businessmen and investment in Oman, as well as the contribution of Omani companies in the development movement witnessed by Iraq.
He emphasized the importance of capitalizing on opportunities, given the rapid global economic competition, and translating shared interests and the distinguished relationship into contributions that achieve sustainable development and benefit the peoples of both countries. He noted the important role of the private sector in both countries and the potential for cooperation, given government support in terms of legislation, laws, and addressing bureaucracy.
Al-Sudani continued by saying that the government provides sovereign guarantees to the investment sector amounting to (85%) of the value of projects, in addition to improving the investment environment, stressing that Iraq still has many natural resources that are not properly invested, the most important of which is the sulfur and phosphate sector, in light of the government’s direction towards economic reform, and the volume of imports that amounts to (70) billion dollars annually.
