Al-Sudani points out conflicts on the path to development - The project belongs to Iraq not to any party or officialShafaq News/ The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, directed on Thursday to resolve the remaining conflicts over the course of the development road project and to complete the planning of the land transport road.

His media office stated, in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that Al-Sudani chaired, today, the seventh meeting of the Supreme Committee of the Strategic Development Road Project, during which the latest steps for following up on the project and preparing the requirements for proceeding with its files were discussed.

Al-Sudani indicated, at the beginning of the meeting, according to the statement, that the path to development is the project of the Iraqi state, with all its interests and the economic growth aspirations of our people, and it cannot be attributed to a specific party, official, ministry, or sectoral entity, stressing Iraq’s openness to the participation of neighboring brotherly and friendly countries, The recent four-way memorandum of understanding signed in this regard will serve as a basis for confirming work on the project in all its details.

He directed that the remaining conflicts occurring on the path of the road project be resolved with the governorates and ministries, through a committee headed by the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office and membership of all concerned parties.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also directed the Minister of Transport to finalize the approval of the designs related to the road project with the governorates and their concerned departments.

Al-Sudani also directed the Minister of Industry and Minerals to complete the vision regarding the shape of the industrial cities to be established on both sides of the road, and to fix the criteria for determining their locations in cooperation with the project’s consultant.

In terms of planning the land route and the highway route designated for vehicles and trucks, Al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, in cooperation with the Italian consultant, to decide the final line of the required route.

The meeting also approved the directive to form a committee of: Customs, standardization and quality control, border crossings, and other relevant sectoral authorities, to resolve the details and procedures of transport operations that will take place towards entering Iraqi territory, or that will exit Iraq using the development road, and to fix the customs tariff and the commercial and administrative requirements related to this activity.

The Prime Minister directed the Legal Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Legal Advisor Department in the Prime Minister’s Office, to develop an integrated legal vision for project management, and to establish the legal aspects related to its operation.
