Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Monday that the reconstruction of the Great Mosque of al-Nuri and its Al-Hadba minaret in Mosul represents a major victory over black terrorism, praising the prominent role of the UAE and UNESCO in completing this project.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Al-Sudani said, “I extend a warm welcome to my friends and to the United Arab Emirates,” adding, “In the city of Mosul, determination and patriotism are once again united to raise the name of God on a minaret that represents history and heritage.”

The Prime Minister added that “the return of Al-Hadbaa represents a great victory over black terrorism,” noting that “the terrorists’ attacks represent a demolition of humanity and values, but they are attempts that were born to fail.”

He continued, “The minaret was restored to its former glory and the Great Mosque of al-Nuri was restored to its former glory as a reminder to the enemy of Iraq’s fierce resistance against vandalism.” He emphasized that his government had, since the beginning of its work, pursued a “civilized architectural vision” and that “support for culture will continue.”

Al-Sudani concluded by expressing his gratitude to the entities that contributed to the restoration of this honorable heritage, saying, “I thank the entities that contributed to the restoration of this honorable heritage, most notably the UAE and UNESCO.”
