Al-Sudani describes the electricity crisis in Iraq as chronic and confirms the continuation of reducing imported gasShafaq News/ The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani described, on Wednesday, the energy shortage crisis in the country as a “chronic problem” that requires high preparations to address it, stressing that his government will continue to reduce dependence on imported gas in operating electric power plants.

This came during the inauguration today of high-voltage conversion stations for electric power (400 kV), at the Al-Quds gas station, located in the Al-Rashidiya area, northeast of Baghdad, and the Al-Rashid gas station in the southwest of the capital, in order to remove the bottlenecks in the electric power system from many Baghdad areas, according to a statement issued by the Sudanese media office.

The statement stated that the Prime Minister, during his visit to the Jerusalem station, chaired a meeting that included representatives of Siemens and General Electric companies, and the advanced staff in the Ministry of Electricity, during which a review of the steps related to maintaining and raising the efficiency of electric power stations, and ensuring the progress of procedures in the implementation of contracts that concluded recently.

The statement added that Al-Sudani also followed up on the installation of cooling systems for the generation stations, which will be started soon, and which would increase the production of electric power.

The Iraqi Prime Minister said that his government has placed the electricity problem among the priorities, and that dealing with this chronic problem requires work and high preparation, because the citizen is waiting for solutions that end the ongoing electricity crisis.

And he indicated that the government is proceeding with its plans to invest associated gas and natural gas in the field of energy, in order to reduce dependence on imported gas, in addition to preventing the harmful effects caused by flaring associated gas.
