Al-Sudani said in a joint press conference he held with his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Al-Madbouly in the capital, Cairo, that the meeting of the Joint Higher Committee ended with the signing of 11 memorandums of understanding, as well as the minutes of the joint meeting, indicating that these minutes and notes are a road map for the relationship between the two governments for the next stage, which comes to develop the relationship between Iraq and Egypt, opening the field of economic cooperation and trade exchange, and investing in the promising investment opportunities in Iraq in various fields.

He described the relations between the two countries as extending to the depth of history, and said that this matter requires us to strengthen and develop this relationship in various fields.

He noted that Iraq today is witnessing a state of political, economic and societal stability, and today it has regained its leading role in the region, and it is an essential part of the solution, not the problem, and presents initiatives, solutions, and political and economic opportunities that benefit the countries of the region and the world.

Al-Sudani added, “Certainly, our strategic and pivotal relationship with Egypt will enhance this role, and will contribute to restoring the effectiveness of this influential axis on the Arab, regional and international levels.”

And he considered the conclusion of the 11 memorandums of understanding “an important and good thing,” adding, “But the most important thing is the implementation of these agreements during this period, and this is what should receive attention from us personally, and it will be communication with Madbouly and with the heads of the ministerial committee from both countries, according to the memorandums of understanding.”

Earlier in the day, the work of the joint higher committee between Iraq and Egypt was launched, headed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani and his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouly, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi government.

Egyptian official media said that the work of the committee started at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, followed by the signing of a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding.

In turn, the Iraqi government stated in a statement that the meeting witnessed discussing bilateral relations between the two countries, discussing a number of common issues and files, and emphasizing the development of bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Egypt in various fields.

She also stated that during the meeting, the work of the joint coordinating and executive committees was reviewed, and their results regarding a number of memorandums of mutual understanding ready for signing were discussed.

According to the statement, the Iraqi Prime Minister and his Egyptian counterpart signed the main minutes of the meeting, and they also sponsored the signing ceremony of 11 memorandums of mutual understanding in a number of fields and sectors.

The statement indicated that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Central Bank of Iraq and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in Egypt, to cooperate in the field of enabling small and medium enterprises to achieve economic growth.

He added that a memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Ministry of Commerce and the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry, for cooperation in the field of joining the World Trade Organization, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of diplomatic training and exchange of experiences between the Institute of Foreign Service at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, and a memorandum of understanding in the field of administration, public office and civil service between the Iraqi Federal Service Council and the Egyptian Central Agency for Organization and Administration.

In its statement, the Iraqi government noted that a memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of tourism, and in the field of exchanging experiences between the Ministry of Planning and the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation, and a memorandum of understanding in the field of cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and the Institute of National Planning in Egypt.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed in the field of work between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Egyptian Ministry of Labor, and another memorandum on joint cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, according to the same statement.

The statement added that two memorandums of understanding in the fields of youth and sports were signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Al-Sudani arrived yesterday, Monday, in Cairo at the head of a high-level official delegation to preside over the meetings of the second session of the Joint Higher Committee between Egypt and Iraq.

The delegation accompanying the Prime Minister of Iraq includes the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, Trade and Electricity, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the Chairman of the National Investment Commission, and a number of officials.
