Al-Sudani and the dream of a second term - stepping outside the framework and heading towards the external factorInformation/Baghdad…
Flying away from the Coordination Framework flock, approaching external parties, and relying on them to realize the dream of a second term may not be destined for success. Al-Sudani seeks to achieve this for himself to ensure his continued hold on power, especially after courting the United States for support. He is also far removed from the Coordination Framework’s calculations as prime minister for the next phase, following the elections next month.
Hussein Al-Karawi, head of the organizing body of the popular movement for the Belt and Road Initiative, told Al-Maalouma, “Al-Sudani continues to work to achieve electoral gains with the aim of obtaining a second term, as he granted major projects and exemptions to Khamis Al-Khanjar. He also worked to divide the Shiite ranks with the aim of obtaining a second term and obtaining the prime ministership again, no matter the cost and at any price.” He added, “There are hidden agreements with regional countries as well as with the American side to obtain support and obtain a second term after the parliamentary elections next month. There are clear indications from the American side to support the aforementioned figure to keep him in the prime ministership despite the political rejection of him assuming the position again.”

For his part, former MP Hassan Faddam confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “there is an increase in the tone and rhetoric within the Coordination Framework towards Al-Sudani, especially since the latter has distanced himself from the framework during his election campaign. It is difficult for the framework to achieve harmony and agreement among its parties on Al-Sudani as prime minister again, as there is rejection and non-acceptance of this personality within the framework in the next phase. Therefore, Al-Sudani is no longer the personality nominated by the Coordination Framework to lead the next phase, after Al-Sudani distanced himself from the framework, which will make him far from a second term after the next parliamentary elections.”

In a related development, Sabah Al-Akeili, a member of the Rights Movement, explained to Al-Maalouma that “Al-Sudani is working to market himself and his bloc in order to reach a second term and ensure his continuation as prime minister for the next stage, especially since Al-Sudani’s recent practices are intended to win over the street, with the aim of achieving electoral gains, which is something that has been criticized by some political parties amid demands for the Coordination Framework to restrict Al-Sudani and ensure that state resources and influence are not used in the electoral project.” He pointed out that “the files related to appointments and land distribution in the central and southern governorates are intended to achieve electoral benefit for Al-Sudani and his alliance and win over the Shiite street.”
