Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil confirmed on Saturday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had approved the operation of Mosul International Airport by a Turkish company.

Al-Dakhil told Shafaq News Agency that Al-Sudani agreed, during a phone call, that the Turkish company “EKA” would be the official operator of Mosul International Airport, stressing that “the local government has been authorized to complete all the terms and procedures related to the contract requirements.”

He pointed out that “this step represents a crucial stage in the process of operating Mosul Airport as Nineveh’s window to the world,” noting that “the Turkish company will manage and operate the airport in accordance with international standards.”

Al-Dakhil added, “The local government will complete the technical and administrative requirements of the contract in coordination with the relevant authorities.”

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had previously inaugurated Mosul International Airport, announcing its initial operation for domestic flights. Negotiations have continued over the past few months with international operating companies to select the most suitable operator.

The airport is one of the province’s most prominent strategic projects, as it is expected to contribute to stimulating economic, tourism, and commercial activity and reconnect Mosul to the world.
