On Thursday, the head of the Ajyal Parliamentary Bloc, MP Muhammad Al-Sayhud, considered the Sudanese government’s decision to request the end of the mission of the United Nations UNAMI mission in Iraq to be one of the most important decisions towards completing national sovereignty, indicating that all justifications for UNAMI’s presence in Iraq have disappeared.
Al-Sayhoud told Al-Maalouma, “All justifications for the presence of the United Nations mission in Iraq have disappeared,” noting that “the mission’s actions recently have exceeded all the powers that govern its work.”
He added, “The Sudanese government’s decision to submit a request to the Secretary-General of the United Nations to end UNAMI’s mission in Iraq is a correct decision and a real step towards completing national sovereignty.”
It is noteworthy that the government asked the United Nations mission, UNAMI, to end its work by 2025, considering that it no longer needs it due to the fact that it has made significant progress towards stability.
