Former MP Karim Al-Sarai stressed on Thursday that the next government is obligated to solve the electricity crisis that citizens have been suffering from for years, stressing that this issue must be among its top priorities.

Al-Sarai told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the electricity crisis directly affects the economic and social lives of citizens, considering that previous governments were limited to patchwork solutions that did not address the problem fundamentally.”

He pointed out that “ending the electricity crisis will restore trust between the citizen and the state and enhance internal stability.”

Al-Sarai called for “developing a clear strategic plan to address the crisis definitively through investment in infrastructure and the development of production and distribution.”

For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Investment Committee, Hussein al-Saabri, indicated that the Ministry of Electricity lacks real solutions, explaining that electricity demand last summer reached 48,000 megawatts while production did not exceed 27,000 megawatts.
