Al-Salami demands that the oil company reveal details of an Iraqi refinery in MogadishuAl-Maalouma/Baghdad…
MP Haider Al-Salami called on the Ministry of Oil on Tuesday to take an official and transparent position regarding the recent revelations regarding the presence of an Iraqi refinery in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, which dates back to the late 1970s.
Al-Salami told Al-Maalouma that “the government spokesman’s statements about the presence of an Iraqi refinery in Mogadishu since the late 1970s represent extremely important information and require a clear position from the Ministry of Oil to reveal the details of this file.” He pointed out that “keeping the issue secret from 2003 until today raises many question marks.”
He added that “the Ministry of Oil is required to clarify the size of Iraqi investments in this project, the legal basis on which it was established, as well as the reasons for not including it in official data or disclosing it in recent years.” He indicated that he “submitted an official request to the ministry to obtain clarifications in this regard.”
Al-Salami stressed that “this file affects national wealth and foreign investments that were supposed to be subject to the oversight of the state and its competent institutions. This requires a transparent investigation and accurate answers to the public.”
It is noteworthy that the government spokesman had previously revealed the existence of an Iraqi refinery in Mogadishu, established in the late 1970s within the framework of foreign investment.
