Al-Sadr Movement responds to Al-Maliki: We will not participate in any government that has a framework

Shafaq News/ The National Shiite Movement (formerly the Sadrist Movement), led by Muqtada al-Sadr, responded on Saturday to the statements of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, in which he said that the Coordination Framework will remain present in the next Iraqi government, even if the Sadrists return to the scene.
Commenting on this, a prominent leader in the movement told Shafaq News Agency, “The return of the Shiite National Movement to the political scene during the next stage, if it takes place after al-Sadr’s approval, does not mean that the movement will be a partner to the forces of the Coordination Framework in the next government or be an ally of it after the elections.”
The leader, who requested not to be named, explained that “the Sadrists’ position is firm in rejecting any alliance with the framework forces, and it is possible that a few parties from the framework will be part of Al-Sadr’s project to form a national majority government, but it is unreasonable for us to be part of any government in which the Coordination Framework is its main problem.”
The Sadrist leader’s statement comes at a time when political sources report that most political blocs, with their various titles and components, have sent representatives to Najaf in an attempt to gauge the position of the leader of the Shiite National Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, on whether or not to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Informed sources in Al-Hanana, Al-Sadr’s headquarters, had previously indicated that participation in the upcoming elections or not depends on Al-Sadr, and that his followers and supporters are committed to that.
Recently, there has been increasing talk about a movement by the leaders of the Coordination Framework towards Al-Sadr, to push him to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, while observers believe that the divisions within the framework forces are what are pushing the framework forces to call on the movement to return to political work.
In June 2022, Al-Sadr decided to withdraw from the political process in Iraq and not participate in any upcoming elections so as not to associate with “corrupt” politicians, after calling for the resignation of all of his 73 members of parliament.
