Today, Tuesday, economic expert Rashid Al-Saadi described the Tax Authority as the most corrupt in state institutions after the theft of the century was revealed.

Al-Saadi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency that “the Tax Authority is the most corrupt government institution in Iraq after the disclosure of the theft of the century file, Ishtar Bank, and corruption files of the Traffic Department, border crossings, and other government departments in which legal violations were recorded, through which huge sums of money were stolen that were not returned to the state treasury.”

He added that “the state treasury from the Tax Authority is very small and cannot be compared to the huge financial revenues that the Authority receives, estimated at billions of dollars,” indicating that “the tax system in Iraq needs to be reconsidered due to the existence of legal loopholes that some employees in the tax departments exploit for their own benefit, including the estimation system that allows them, legally, to manipulate the estimated costs by using the upper and lower limits in estimating the taxpayer’s tax through extortion and pressure to obtain huge sums of money from tax revenues.”

He added, “The tax systems in Iraq need amendments to keep pace with the development that has occurred in the tax system in the countries of the world to deny the opportunity to manipulators to limit the spread of corruption.”
