MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi confirmed on Wednesday that political and popular forces are closely following the developments taking place between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Zionist entity, noting that the decision to decide the fate of the US presence in Iraq, including the closure of the embassy in Baghdad, will be made after the end of the war.
Al-Moussawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Basra Governorate witnessed large demonstrations demanding the closure of the US embassy, in addition to similar protests in the capital, Baghdad, where demonstrators tried to enter the Green Zone but were prevented by security forces.”
He pointed out that “the pace of the protests is likely to expand in the coming days to include other Iraqi governorates, in light of growing popular anger at the continued US presence, especially after Washington’s support for the Zionist entity and its green light to target the Islamic Republic of Iran, in addition to the repeated violations committed by US forces inside Iraq.”
He added that “the forces supporting the Islamic Republic of Iran are currently waiting to make a final decision regarding the US embassy, awaiting the results of the ongoing Iranian strikes against the Zionist entity,” suggesting that “decisive steps, which may include closing the embassy, will be taken in the coming days, depending on developments in the regional situation.”
