Representative of the Coordination Framework, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, warned on Monday against the Iraqi government’s submission to American dictates and pressures, especially regarding the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), stressing the need to move forward with legislation of the PMF law away from any external interference or pressure.
Al-Moussawi told Al-Maalouma that “any government emanating from the Iraqi people will not submit to American dictates or pressures, especially if they aim to stand against the PMF.”
Al-Moussawi added that “the PMF is a recognized security body with its own law and tasks, and therefore the vote on the currently stalled PMF law will not change its official status or strip it of its status as an official force established under the law.”
He pointed out that “the PMF law has been read for the first and second time, and all that remains is a vote on it. The Prime Minister must stand up to defend the PMF as he defends his government, because standing with American dictates will make Iraq subject to all orders issued by Washington.”
