MP for the Coordination Framework, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, confirmed on Wednesday that the groups opposing the Popular Mobilization Forces and the proposed law in parliament are aiming to win the favor of the US administration.
Al-Moussawi told Al-Maalouma, “The Popular Mobilization Forces do not represent a single component, but rather include all Iraqi components. They include more than 24,000 members from the Sunni component, in addition to Christians, Turkmen, Yazidis, Mandaeans, and Faylis, with the exception of the Kurdish component, which did not participate.”
He added, “The parties opposing the Popular Mobilization Forces and its structural law are seeking to get closer to the US administration at the expense of the will of the Iraqi people.”
Al-Moussawi explained that “adherence to the Popular Mobilization Forces as a security institution stems from fears of a repeat of the 2014 scenario, in addition to the fact that the Popular Mobilization Forces defended the dignity of Iraq and its people, and were able to achieve victory and change the equation in the face of the terrorist ISIS.”
