Independent politician Abbas al-Maliki stressed the importance of the Coordination Framework moving towards nominating a strong figure capable of making crucial decisions and avoiding the embarrassment of selecting the prime minister.
Al-Maliki told Al-Maalouma, “The next phase requires the Coordination Framework to nominate a strong and wise figure capable of making important decisions, especially since the past years have witnessed a succession of figures who were unable to make decisions that would make Iraqis feel the prime ministership is a significant position.” He added
, “The next prime minister must make important decisions and attend to the affairs of citizens, the sovereignty of Iraq, and the resolution of the country’s numerous crises, particularly unemployment, water scarcity, informal settlements, housing, education, and health, as it has not been observed that prime ministers have given these issues significant attention.”
He explained, “The Coordination Framework is required not to repeat past mistakes that were criticized, but rather to choose a figure capable of dealing with these issues seriously and diligently. This is a fundamental factor that the Framework must consider as a criterion for selecting the next prime minister, as the position being filled by just any other figure will put the Framework in a very difficult position.”
