Shafaq News/ The State of Law Coalition, led by Nouri al-Maliki, revealed today, Saturday, that there is American pressure being exerted on Israel in order to prevent it from carrying out any strikes against Iraq.
The leader of the coalition, Saad Al-Mutalibi, told Shafaq News Agency, “The Zionist entity has not yet carried out any aggressive strikes against Iraq, in response to the operations of the Iraqi factions,” noting that “any Israeli strike will affect the relationship between Baghdad and Washington.”
Al-Mutalibi added, “There is pressure from the United States of America on the Zionist entity to prevent it from carrying out any strikes against Iraq, for fear of straining the relationship between Baghdad and Washington, especially since there is a joint security agreement between the two countries, and for this reason America is putting strong pressure on the entity.”
Two officials, one a US defense official and the other a regional security official, said that Iraqi armed factions “backed by Iran” are launching one-way attack drones against Israel from inside Iraq, which US and partner forces have had to intercept, according to the Associated Press.
Last October, the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, stressed that the decision of war and peace is decided by the Iraqi state and its constitutional institutions.
Al-Sudani said: “Anyone who deviates from this will confront the state, which relies on the power of the constitution and the law in carrying out its duties and tasks,” stressing that “the interests of Iraq and the Iraqis are above all considerations.”
At the beginning of last October, the Coordination Framework revealed Iraqi preparations in anticipation of a “possible” Israeli attack.
According to the framework member, MP Alawi Al-Bandawi, the government has taken military and security steps in coordination with the leadership, pointing to the continuous meetings of the Commander-in-Chief with the Joint Operations Command, amidst escalating regional tension that threatens to extend the conflict to Iraq.
