Maliki, the leader of the State of Law Coalition, described today, Wednesday, America’s agreement to pay Iraq’s debts to Iran within 120 days as “throwing dust in the eyes,” while stressing that Washington was the main reason behind the electricity crisis in Iraq.
Al-Maliki said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “What the US Treasury declared to give Iraq and Iran another deadline that includes 120 days regarding importing gas to operate electrical stations and paying financial dues to Tehran is a kind of (throwing dust in the eyes”) and added, “The US
administration If it was really sincere in easing the suffering of the Iraqi people, it would hastened from the beginning and before making the decision to barter between Iraq and Iran, and would have allowed the release of large financial payments owed to Iran by Iraq,” noting that “Washington was preventing the delivery of funds in order to prevent the arrival of Iranian gas and cause an electricity crisis in the country.” .
The leader of the State of Law coalition explained, “This crisis would have caused confusion in the Iraqi street, grumbling and a big gap between the government and the citizens, and this is what America worked on during the previous years of investing in the electricity game.”
And al-Maliki said, “The recent approval is an attempt to prove itself as if it is not against Iraqi citizens, and that it is serious about alleviating their suffering, as evidenced by the fact that it allowed the release of money payments due to Iran, especially after the recent popular and political stances, which confirmed that America is behind the lack of electric power.”
Earlier in the day, the British Reuters news agency announced that America had agreed to allow Iraq to pay gas debts to Iran within a period of three months, but the Ministry of Electricity did not confirm the news.
During the past few days, the Iraqi people suffered from a power outage crisis, after stopping the supply of natural gas from Iran. As a result of Washington’s sanctions imposed on Tehran.
