Today, Sunday, a member of the State of Law Coalition, Abbas al-Maliki, addressed a request to the government and judicial agencies regarding the “theft of the century” and the defendants in the case, while the release of the corrupt gives “negative messages” to the Iraqi public.
Al-Maliki said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “The two parties in the state, whether the government or the judiciary, are concerned with corruption files and are required to deal with extreme caution with the file of corruption, the corrupt and the accused, because the arrest of a corrupt person and the release of another corrupt sends negative messages to the Iraqi street.”
He added, “These messages are incorrectly invested against the political class in general and the government in particular,” noting that “the Iraqi street is wondering why this accused was released, and why the other accused was arrested while they were corrupt?”
A member of Maliki’s coalition said, “These actions are a bad investment for the cause of theft of the century, and for things that have already happened, given that there are corrupt people in prisons and others who have been released.”
And al-Maliki stated, “These matters will allow political parties that do not like the good of the political process and Iraq, to accuse the government and the blocs standing behind it of dealing with duality, class, and sectarianism with the corrupt,” pointing out that “the government and its elimination predict this issue and clarify it to the public and the Iraqi street.” .
Today, Sunday, local media reported news about the release of the first accused of stealing the century, Nour Zuhair, and the lifting of his travel ban, which led to his travel to Dubai without an official position from the government or the judiciary.
