Independent politician Haider al-Lami, close to Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, denied any government intention or move to increase the value of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar.
Al-Lami told Al-Maalouma, “The talk circulating about a green light from the coordination framework or a government intention to increase or raise the value of the dollar against the dinar is untrue. There is absolutely no such intention.”
He added, “The government is carrying out its work normally and must bear its responsibilities regarding the country’s economic situation. It is working to find ways to ensure stability, formulate and implement plans, and secure supplies for the people by working to stabilize the exchange rate domestically.” He explained that
“the government has clear tasks that ensure it does not make decisions that harm the people, works to combat corruption in a genuine and constructive manner, and removes corrupt and controversial figures. There is optimism for the coming days for Iraq.”
