Representative Faleh Al-Khazaali considered, on Sunday, the interference of the US embassy in Iraqi laws and legislations, as a legal violation of the work of diplomatic missions and interference in internal affairs.
Al-Khazaali told / Al-Maalouma / agency, that “the statements of the US ambassador about amending the Personal Status Law represent a blatant interference in Iraq’s affairs and a threat to the Iraqi family.”
He added that “Iraq is a sovereign country and a parliament that has all the powers to legislate the laws that it deems to guarantee the public interest, noting that the interference of the US ambassador by imposing guardianships and preventing the amendment of the Personal Status Law represents a blatant and unacceptable interference.”
He stressed the need for “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assume its real role in following up on the statements and movements of foreign ambassadors inside Iraq.”
