MP for the Al-Fatah parliamentary bloc, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Monday that the differences within the Sunni house regarding agreeing on a candidate for the position of Parliament Speaker are still complicated despite the intervention of Turkish President Erdogan and the head of the Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, expecting that the Sunni political forces will need two months or more to agree.

Al-Kadhimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “It has become certain that the interim parliament presidency will not allocate a session to elect a new speaker for the council at the beginning of the new legislative session, whose legislative recess will end tomorrow, Tuesday.”

He added, “The differences within the Sunni house regarding agreeing on a candidate for the position of Parliament Speaker are still complicated despite the intervention of Turkish President Recep Erdogan and the head of the Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani.”

He added that “the Sunni political forces need two months or more to reach an agreement,” expecting “the session to be postponed for a longer period because the Sunni political forces need a long time to reach an agreement.”

It is noteworthy that all the leaders of the Sunni political forces held a meeting in Baghdad last Thursday to resolve the crisis of electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in the presence of Massoud Barzani.
