MP Thaer al-Jubouri called on Tuesday for the identities of those trying to buy votes in Iraqi governorates to be revealed, stressing the seriousness of these actions on the electoral process.
Al-Jubouri said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “Security services have revealed, over the past few weeks, through official statements, the arrest of networks purchasing voter cards in several governorates, with evidence to prove their innocence.” He pointed out that “these actions are very dangerous and directly affect the electoral process and raise concerns.”
He added that “there is a need to reveal the results of investigations in a transparent manner to the public and to reveal the identities of the parties behind these devious tools that harm the democratic process.” He stressed that “it is impossible to remain silent about those trying to buy votes, and the commission must take deterrent penalties against all those involved in these illegal acts.”
It is noteworthy that security services have arrested several networks involved in purchasing voter cards in recent weeks, the most recent of which was in Baqubah, where four people were arrested and dozens of cards were seized from them.
