Zuhair al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, accused Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Progress Party, on Wednesday of leading a political conspiracy aimed at paralyzing government work and preventing the completion of the ministerial formation, stressing that he is at the head of a suspicious alliance that has devoted its efforts to fighting State of Law candidates and confusing matters.
Al-Jalabi told Al-Maalouma that “Al-Halbousi is the mastermind and the actual driver of the obstruction efforts, as he formed a political alliance whose primary function is to throw a wrench in the works and obstruct the granting of confidence to the candidates of the State of Law Coalition,” noting that “this behavior stems from a tendency towards hegemony and an attempt to seize political decision-making to achieve narrow partisan interests at the expense of the public interest.”
He added that “the fabricated political conflicts have reached a dangerous stage of ‘breaking bones’, due to Al-Halbousi’s determination to perpetuate the ministerial vacuum and his rejection of any national consensus,” completely ruling out “resolving the issue of the vacant ministries in the foreseeable future as long as this obstructionist approach led by the head of the Progress Party continues.”
Al-Jalabi stressed that “Al-Halbousi’s actions represent a direct threat to the stability of the state and its executive institutions,” warning that “continuing the policy of arm-twisting and antagonizing national forces will drag the country into further political deadlock and crisis.”
Earlier, former State of Law Coalition MP Rasul Radhi revealed that political forces opposed Nouri al-Maliki’s candidacy, as well as the nomination of ministers for the cabinet, particularly the political blocs affiliated with Halbousi, in addition to Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Hikma, and some entities that cooperated with them, including the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. This prevented the State of Law candidates from receiving a vote of confidence.
