The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Faiq Yazidi, revealed, on Tuesday, that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) continues to smuggle oil, while stressing that the solution to ending smuggling lies in finding alternative pipelines for export that do not exist in Kurdistan.
Yazidi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, “The Democrat works to smuggle oil through trucks, as more than 200 trucks are smuggled daily,” calling for “the central government to expedite control of oil exports through the national company SOMO.”
And he continued, “The so-called Mansour Barzani, who is close to the ruling family, controls the smuggling of oil from the Khormala and Ain Zala fields, and the imports do not return to the central government or be registered with the Kurdistan government,” pointing out that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party continues to smuggle oil until now.”
The official of the Kurdistan Development Organization, Hossam Al-Barzanji, had revealed, in an interview with the information agency, “the lack of transparency in managing the financial revenues of the Kurdistan region,” noting that “we do not know where the financial revenues from selling oil and border crossings go, due to the absence of a budget for the government.” The region shows expenditures and inputs through accurate data.
