MP Yasser Al-Husseini confirmed on Tuesday that the government of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has failed in the fight against corruption, noting that this file still poses the biggest challenge facing the Iraqi state.
Al-Husseini said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The current government has not been able to develop real solutions to the file of rampant corruption in state institutions,” indicating that “corruption continues to swallow the country’s resources and stands as an obstacle to any process of reform or development.”
He added that “the continuation of this failure weakens the public’s confidence in the government, and turns the slogans raised into mere promises that do not find their way to implementation.”
It is noteworthy that political and popular forces have repeatedly demanded more serious steps to hold the corrupt accountable, considering that ignoring this file will double the economic and service crises in the country.
