MP Yasser Al-Husseini accused the General Company for Iraqi Ports on Saturday of contracting with suspicious entities and companies that could harm the national economy, stressing that the Board of Supreme Audit had performed its supervisory role and prepared the necessary reports on those contracts.
Al-Husseini told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “there are agreements that have been concluded with unknown companies that raise doubts about their legality and transparency, which poses a danger to public funds, noting that weak oversight and laxity of the concerned authorities allowed these deals to be passed without sufficient scrutiny.”
He stressed that “continuing this approach will deepen corruption within state institutions and erode confidence in the government’s management of public resources,” calling on the government to launch an urgent investigation and subject port contracts to a comprehensive financial and technical audit.
