MP Amer Al-Fayez confirmed on Tuesday that it is still too early to talk about a second term for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, noting that the results of the November 11 elections and the political alliances that will follow will determine the identity of the next prime minister.
Al-Fayez told Al-Maalouma, “All Iraqi political forces believe in the necessity of the November 11 elections being fair and transparent, and that they should send a reassuring message to all Iraqis that the electoral process is proceeding without any devious methods or means, and that it truly expresses the will of the voters.” He explained that “ballot boxes are the decisive factor in determining the size of each bloc and the number of its seats.” He
added that “the election results and the resulting political alliances and agreements will be the primary determinant of the identity of the next prime minister,” noting that “talking about a second term for Al-Sudani before the election results are announced is premature, because the political compass will be drawn after the final results are announced and the agreements reached between the blocs.”
Al-Fayez pointed out that “expanding popular participation in the upcoming elections will give positive momentum to the democratic process in Iraq and enhance opportunities for change through the ballot box,” stressing that “effective participation represents a fundamental pillar for ensuring the stability of the political experience and consolidating the democratic approach.”
