A member of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Ali Al-Zubaidi, confirmed, on Monday, that there is an urgent need to announce a position from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the movements of the US ambassador to Iraq, Elena Romanowski, and her departure from the diplomatic frameworks for the work of ambassadors inside the country.
Al-Zubaidi told Al-Maalouma, “The American ambassador is acting at the present time outside the diplomatic framework, as if she is the civil ruler of Iraq by intensifying meetings with Iraqi political and security officials.”
He added, “The ambassador’s job and tasks are specific, and it cannot reach the level of opening commercial centers or meeting with tribal sheikhs, ministers, and social and parliamentary figures, since these actions are outside the specific diplomatic contexts of ambassadors’ work.”
And he indicated that “the relations of ambassadors are in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and what the American ambassador is doing confirms that there are movements and a program that she is working to achieve inside Iraq, which necessitates the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit a protest note to the American government in order to replace her or limit the movements of this ambassador with a previously known history and work.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the concerned authorities were subjected to widespread political criticism for allowing the movement of the US ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romansky, and her interference in internal political affairs.
