Al-Fatah leader: There is no child marriage in the new amendment to the Personal Status Law

Al-Fatah Alliance leader Adi Abdul Hadi confirmed on Thursday that there is no clause for underage marriage in the new amendment to the Personal Status Law.
Abdul Hadi told Al-Maalouma, “For several days now, social media platforms have been witnessing the pumping of a huge amount of false information about the amendments to the Personal Status Law, noting that most of what is published comes from parties trying to confuse matters and harm the provisions of the amendments by publishing misleading claims.”
He added, “There is no mention of marriage of minors aged 9 years and above in the personal status amendments, as what is being proposed is inaccurate, noting that the law guarantees that marriage will not be concluded outside the court to guarantee the rights of women and children.”
He pointed out that “the other important points in the amendments give every Iraqi the right to choose any law in personal status and it will not be retroactive.”
