On Thursday, the leader of the Fatah Alliance, Uday Abdul Hadi, called for an immediate investigation into the “strange” movements made by US troop convoys in a number of governorates over the past 24 hours.
Abdul Hadi told Al-Maalouma, “Social media platforms and media outlets have published, over the past hours, video clips documenting suspicious movements of US convoys in several governorates,” noting that “these movements raise many question marks, especially in light of the existence of an agreed-upon action plan to withdraw these forces according to timetables ending in 2026.”
He added, “These incomprehensible movements that are taking place require an urgent clarification from the relevant authorities to the public, because the continued presence of these forces is unacceptable to the people and politically, and there is a previous decision by the Council of Representatives to remove them from all Iraqi territories.”
Abdul Hadi stressed that “Iraq does not need any foreign presence on its territory, in light of its possession of strong security forces capable of confronting internal and external challenges and breaking the back of terrorism,” adding: “It is unreasonable for there to be a plan to end the American presence, while we are witnessing, on the other hand, an increasing influx of convoys whose destinations and objectives are unknown.”
It is noteworthy that American forces are currently stationed at the Ain al-Asad and Harir bases, and include thousands of soldiers in addition to heavy military equipment and units.
