The Parliamentary Committee for Transport and Communications called on the Parliamentary Presidency on Sunday to include a number of important legislation on the agenda, foremost among which is the Maritime Authority Law, given its importance in strengthening Iraq’s maritime sovereignty and its position in international forums.
Committee member, MP Ghassan Al-Eidani, told Al-Maalouma Agency, “The enactment of the Maritime Authority Law is a fundamental step towards restoring Iraq’s vital role in the maritime sector and enhances its ability to manage its sovereign affairs in accordance with international standards.”
Al-Eidani added, “There is a package of stalled laws awaiting a vote, including the Civil Aviation Authority Law, which will directly contribute to lifting the aviation ban on Iraq and opening doors for cooperation with international organizations.”
He explained, “Expediting the approval of these laws will push towards developing the transportation infrastructure and restore international confidence in Iraq’s capabilities in the field of maritime and air transport, which will positively impact the national economy by stimulating trade and opening new investment horizons.”
Al-Eidani stressed the importance of resolving these legislative issues during the remainder of the current parliamentary term, given their direct impact on improving Iraq’s geopolitical position and raising the level of coordination with countries around the world in the areas of transportation, maritime and air trade.
