MP Zahra Al-Bajjari called on Sunday for an end to the raising of other countries’ flags on Iraqi ships.
Al-Bujari told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “There is a very important law that has not yet been enacted, which is the Maritime Authority Law,” noting that “the draft law is ready for voting and ratification, but it is awaiting the end of the House of Representatives’ legislative recess to place it on the parliament’s agenda.”
She explained that “the Jordanian flag is still being flown on Iraqi ships,” considering this “a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty, which reinforces the urgent need to enact this law as soon as possible.”
Al-Bujari called on the Speaker of Parliament and the House of Representatives to “hold extraordinary sessions, even during the legislative recess, in order to pass the Maritime Authority Law, along with other equally important laws, including those related to the Popular Mobilization Forces and the general budget.”
