Al-Bandawi - The governments contract with the American side to purchase military aircraft is a huge stepMember of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Ali Al-Bandawi, considered the government’s contract with the American side to purchase new warplanes a “huge” step.

Al-Bandawi said {to Al-Furat News} that: “The step of the government contracting with the American side to purchase new warplanes is considered huge, as Iraq needs advanced generation aircraft to protect its airspace from external dangers.”

Al-Bandawi added, “The available aircraft secure the country’s internal airspace, and Iraq needs modern, advanced aircraft from international origins to protect the Iraqi airspace from dangers.”

Defense Minister Thabet Al-Abbasi announced that representatives of the Ministry of Defense had signed contracts from the American side in the field of air defenses.

It is noteworthy that Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani also discussed with the delegation of the American company General Dynamics in Washington cooperation to develop tanks to make them “suitable for Iraqi fields and airspace.”

Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi revealed today that Iraq had signed a deal in the armaments sector to purchase 41 aircraft after Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani’s meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Al-Awadi said in a press statement, “There will be a flexible plan to pay the price of some of these aircraft, while others are a gift provided by the United States of America,” stressing that “the aircraft will be delivered within a few months, and a special production line will be opened for Iraq.”
