MP Mohammed Al-Baldawi confirmed today, Saturday, that the Sunni blocs have not yet agreed on a specific person to obtain the position of Parliament Speaker, while revealing the reason for not including the paragraph on electing the Speaker of the Council in tomorrow’s session.
Al-Baldawi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The political components within the Sunni component have not yet agreed on a specific figure, and this has led to the non-inclusion of the paragraph on electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives in tomorrow’s session,” indicating that “despite the Sunni component’s claims that they are demanding a resolution to this issue, they refuse to reach an agreement.”
He added, “The pressure of the framework and its push to resolve this issue made the Sunni blocs issue several statements refusing to attend the session to elect the president if it is set without prior agreement on a specific figure,” noting that “the ball is now in the court of the Sunni blocs and the Coordination Framework supports resolving this issue.”
During a meeting held last Monday evening, attended by Al-Sudani, the Coordination Framework called on members of the House of Representatives to hold a meeting next Saturday to decide on the presidency of the council and put an end to the vacancy of this important position throughout the past period.
