MP Ahmed Al-Badri affirmed on Tuesday that the Khor Abdullah file is Iraqi, reiterating his confidence in the fairness of the Iraqi judiciary and awaiting the decision of the Federal Supreme Court on the matter.
Al-Badri told Al-Maalouma that “Khor Abdullah is Iraqi and represents a strategic geography that serves as a gateway to Iraqi ports in Basra,” stressing that “there is no dispute about that. Therefore, its importance stems from its being an extremely important waterway that cannot be relinquished under any circumstances.
” He added, “Everyone is awaiting the firm decision from the Federal Supreme Court, which we believe will resolve the file in Iraq’s favor, because Khor Abdullah is 100% Iraqi.”
Al-Badri stressed that “this vital and strategic file cannot be relinquished at all, as it represents an integral part of Iraqi territory,” noting that “there is a lawsuit pending before the Federal Court whose ruling has been postponed until after the Arab Summit in order to issue a final decision on the matter.”
It’s worth noting that the Khor Abdullah issue has stirred public opinion in recent weeks, given its strategic gateway to Iraqi ports in Basra. There have been widespread calls to affirm its Iraqi identity and not to relinquish it in any way.
