Political analyst Saeed Al-Badri confirmed on Thursday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is working to secure the support of Sunni and Kurdish political parties as part of his efforts to secure a second term after the upcoming elections, noting that competition for parliamentary seats will be fierce in the coming period.
Al-Badri said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The political alliances that Al-Sudani is seeking to form with Sunni figures and entities such as Mohammed Al-Halbousi and Khamis Al-Khanjar are part of his vision for the coming period, as he aspires to continue ruling for a second term.”
He added, “This ambition faces challenges from within the Coordination Framework itself, which is pushing Al-Sudani to seek early alliances that depend on his results in the upcoming elections.”
Al-Badri explained that “competition for parliamentary seats will be fierce, and Al-Sudani aims through it to strengthen his position among his political partners, gain internal acceptance from the Kurdish and Sunni parties, in addition to regional and international support that will enhance his chances of remaining in power.”
