On Tuesday, Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Badr Organization, considered the sixth parliamentary elections to be the least sensitive in terms of “sensitivity and tensions” between political forces and parties in Iraq, while denying that the current Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, had requested a second term.
This came in a press conference he held after casting his vote in the elections in the capital, Baghdad, which was attended by a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency.
Regarding the Sadrist movement’s boycott of the elections, Al-Amiri said during the conference, “We respect our brothers in the Sadrist movement. I participate while they boycott, and this is good democracy in Iraq.”
Regarding the possibility of renewing another term for the current Iraqi federal prime minister, Al-Amiri indicated that “Al-Sudani did not request a second term, but that is up to the elections and the political forces,” stressing that “after the election results are announced, anyone who sees himself as being chosen by the political forces should nominate himself.”
He stressed that “we have not and will not allow foreign interference in Iraqi affairs,” referring to the formation of the next Iraqi government.
Al-Amiri continued, “The Iraqi people will respond to any foreign interference, and foreign recommendations and interventions are gone and will not return to Iraq,” stressing that “the Iraqi people are the decision-makers, and foreign threats to impose an economic blockade on Iraq will go to hell.”
