Political analyst Sabah Al-Akeili said on Friday that the former dismissed parliament speaker, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, is seeking to return to the political process by exerting pressure from abroad and making bargains.
Al-Akeili told Al-Maalouma, “Al-Halbousi’s visit to America caused a major reaction and criticism from the Sunni house in the first place, and some Sunni parties confirmed that he does not represent the component, in addition to the fact that the majority of the component’s members reject Al-Halbousi’s moves and the effort to establish the Sunni region.”
He added, “Most of the Sunni component stands with a unified Iraq, not one divided into regions, and they also reject any attempt to weaken or divide Iraq.”
He explained that “what is happening in Syria and the region has an impact on the Iraqi arena, and Halbousi, after losing all his positions, has returned to present himself again, and these moves may be aimed at bargaining with the Iraqi leaders in order to return him to the political process, and thus reviving Halbousi again will be in exchange for not using him as a (pickaxe) to destroy the political process.”
