Shafaq News – Islamabad: Pakistani media reported on Thursday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has canceled his visit to Switzerland ahead of the scheduled start of negotiations between Tehran and Washington on Friday. Pakistani television stated that “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned visit to Switzerland has been canceled, without specifying a reason.” The television station added that “the US-Iranian technical negotiations will begin separately.” Pakistani media quoted a source in the Prime Minister’s office as saying that “the Foreign Secretary will represent Pakistan at the Switzerland meeting.” Earlier on Thursday, the Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed that preliminary talks between the United States and Iran would take place at the Bürgenstock mountain resort on Friday, following the signing of the ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington. The ministry stated in a press release, reported by Reuters, that “as of now, the plan remains for a meeting between the United States and Iran, along with mediators Pakistan and Qatar and other interested countries, tomorrow in Bürgenstock for preliminary negotiations on the implementation of the agreement.” On Wednesday evening, US President Donald Trump and Iranian Foreign Minister Masoud Pezeshkian remotely signed a memorandum of understanding under which Tehran commits to reducing its uranium enrichment levels as part of future negotiations, in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions.
