Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, adjourned the parliamentary session before it was held, after he received news of the termination of his membership against the backdrop of a lawsuit previously filed against him by the “former” MP Laith al-Dulaimi.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court heard the case, No. 9/Federal/2023.
According to the ruling issued therein, it decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Rekan Al-Halbousi, and to terminate the membership of Representative Laith Mustafa Hamoud Al-Dulaimi, as of the date of issuance of the ruling on 11/14/2023, a final decision that is binding on all authorities.
A parliamentary source told Shafaq News Agency, “Al-Halbousi decided to adjourn the session until further notice, and left Parliament immediately after the Federal Court’s decision was issued.”
The lawyer of the “dismissed” MP, Laith Al-Dulaimi, had reported earlier today, Tuesday, that the Federal Court had decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
The lawyer stated in a video recording, viewed by Shafaq News Agency, that the Federal Court considered the lawsuit filed by his client Laith Al-Dulaimi against Al-Halbousi, indicating that the decision taken by the court included many paragraphs that he described as “important and major.”
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, issued a decision terminating the membership of MP Laith al-Dulaimi based on the latter’s resignation.
Al-Dulaimi announced his rejection of the decision to exclude him from the Iraqi Council of Representatives, which was taken by Council Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, while describing the decision as “illegal and arbitrary,” and called for deterring and confronting “dictatorship.”
