After the end of the international coalitions missions... Britain - We are committed to Iraqs security and ready for a new partnershipShafaq News/ The British Ministry of Defense commented, on Saturday evening, on the joint announcement by Baghdad and Washington to end the international coalition’s “military” missions in Iraq within the next 12 months.

According to a statement by the ministry, the United Kingdom will continue to support Iraq’s security, noting that “the coming months will witness London working with Baghdad to develop a permanent relationship as part of this transition to a new security and defence partnership.”

Britain praised the professionalism of its soldiers who played a role in the mission to defeat ISIS, and praised the courage and effectiveness of the Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga, according to the statement.

She added that with the basic objectives being achieved, the process of new security arrangements can begin, stressing that the United Kingdom remains committed to ensuring the defeat of ISIS, which reinforces Britain’s commitment to the security of Iraq and the wider region.

The Inherent Resolve coalition was established in 2014 to help partner forces ensure the defeat of ISIS and establish lasting security cooperation.

The British mission operated within the framework of the international coalition, which consisted of 87 partners, including 82 governments and five member organisations. The United Kingdom also played a leading role through Operation Shader, a British contribution to Operation Inherent Resolve.

At the invitation of the Iraqi government at the time, UK forces provided valuable support, training and assistance to more than 111,000 members of the Iraqi security forces.

This included more than 21,000 Peshmerga, in infantry, weapons maintenance, counter-IED, medical and engineering skills, and according to the British Defense statement, the Air Force carried out more than 10,000 sorties, hitting 1,400 targets.
