Mahmoud Khoshnaw, a leader in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), confirmed on Sunday that the dialogues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government have made significant progress on the issue of oil and non-oil revenues, noting that there has been noticeable progress in this regard.
Khoshnaw told Al-Maalouma Agency, “The viewpoints of the region and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan were discussed over the past week, and a formula was reached that will be sent today to the Council of Ministers for decision.” He indicated that “the issue of non-oil revenues will be resolved after the Council’s approval, while the issue of resuming oil exports remains.”
He added that “a tripartite meeting will be held soon between the regional government, the federal government, and foreign oil-producing companies.”
Khoshnaw stressed that “serious communication between the two parties and the signing of the final agreement will end the controversy that has caused the disruption of salary payments throughout the past period,” stressing that “current indicators give rise to optimism that a comprehensive agreement is imminent.”
In March 2023, oil exports via the Turkish-Ceyhan pipeline were halted after an international ruling required Türkiye to pay compensation to Baghdad for allowing the region’s oil to be exported without the federal government’s approval.
