MP and former Minister Wael Abdel Latif said today, Sunday, that the amount stolen from the tax deposits is greater than the announced figure, while he pointed out that there are big heads behind planning and executing the theft of the century.
Abdul Latif said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “The failure to announce the correct number of stolen funds from tax deposits prompts us to wonder about the existence of other thefts that have not yet been discovered,” noting that “the amount stolen from tax deposits is greater than the announced number.”
He added, “The theft of the century took place over 8 months, and this money was supposed to be added to the budget to benefit from it,” noting that “the government recovered 5% of the money that was looted through this theft.”
He explained that “we fear the political process will be ruined by revealing the names of those involved in the theft of the century before announcing the results of the investigation,” calling for “parliamentary and governmental action to inventory the funds present within government departments and institutions.”
He added, “The dispute over shares is what led to the discovery of the theft of the century, not any competent authority, and the real figures of the theft will not be revealed.”
Judge Haider Hanoun had previously called on the Minister of Finance and the head of the Tax Authority to provide the Integrity Commission with the stolen amounts in the theft of the century without any ambiguity.
