Former MP and Minister Wael Abdul Latif confirmed on Thursday that Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, is the most acceptable candidate for the position of Prime Minister. He attributed his return to the post to several reasons related to political acceptance and support within the Coordination Framework.
Abdul Latif told the Information Agency, “Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, enjoys the support of the majority of political forces within the Coordination Framework, which makes him the most likely candidate to head the next government.”
He added, “Maliki possesses a strong personality and is considered one of the most influential figures within the framework. Furthermore, he received a ‘green light’ from Kurdish leaders, especially during his recent visit to Erbil and his meeting with Masoud Barzani. He also enjoys broad acceptance from most Sunni forces, who are convinced that he is the strongest figure within the framework.”
MP Mohammed al-Ziyadi had previously confirmed to Information that the selection of the Prime Minister would be made by an independent decision solely within the Coordination Framework, noting that Maliki enjoys significant acceptance among most of its political forces.
