Informed sources confirmed on Thursday the movement of a large convoy of US forces from Harir Air Base near Erbil towards southern Iraq, amid reports that it would later head to US bases in Kuwait.
The sources explained to Al-Maalomah that “the large convoy includes logistical support equipment, vehicles, and steel tanks, and departed from Harir Air Base under US protection. It is currently heading towards southern Iraq.”
They added that “information indicates the convoy is heading towards US bases in Kuwait, as part of the gradual withdrawal of US forces stationed at Harir Air Base for years.”
They pointed out that “these movements are part of the procedures for evacuating and handing over the base by September 30, according to the agreement between Baghdad and Washington,” noting that “the convoy has now reached areas in Salah al-Din Governorate and is traveling on the main road towards the southern regions.”
The sources indicated that “this is the third convoy to depart from Harir Air Base in recent weeks, as part of the process of withdrawing US forces and equipment from Iraq.”
