A sudden technical glitch hit the social media platform “X” on Monday, causing a service outage for thousands of users around the world, amid the absence of any official explanation from the company’s management regarding the reasons so far.
The website DownDetector, which specializes in monitoring internet outages, recorded a sharp increase in reports starting at 1:02 PM GMT, with reports exceeding 11,000 in the United States alone, and more than 3,300 in the United Kingdom during the first minutes of the outage.
Affected users complained of multiple technical difficulties, most notably the failure to load new posts in the “timeline” and the unresponsiveness of the application on smartphones, while frequent error messages appeared when trying to refresh the homepage via browsers.
Company X has not issued any official statement explaining the nature of the technical malfunction or when the service will be restored, while initial data indicates that the outage is widespread and includes users of iOS systems and the website alike.
This disruption is the latest in a series of technical glitches that the platform has recently faced, as the beginning of February witnessed a similar outage that affected thousands of users, raising questions about the stability of the platform’s infrastructure in light of ongoing updates.
The current outage has prompted thousands of users to seek status updates via alternative platforms, at a time when scenarios of sudden shutdowns of major digital services are becoming more frequent, reigniting the debate about the reliability of central networks in managing the global flow of information.
